About
The Emily Fund and the Do One Thing Campaign:
Shortly after 19-year old Gettysburg college sophomore,
Emily Rachel Silverstein, was violently murdered on
April 9, 2009, her family set up The Emily Fund to continue
her legacy of hope in action for a better world. The
fund provides scholarships, resources and programs like
The BetterWorld Kids Clubs and Do One Thing campaign
to inspire young people to make a difference in their
communities.
Emily's
compassion, passion and creativity touched many lives.
She was an active leader promoting numerous social causes,
including peace and conflict resolution, environmental
sustainability, animal and human rights, and ending
hunger and homelessness. Emily shared deep friendships
and accomplished countless amazing things. But there
was so much more that she wanted to do to make this
world a better place; so many more lives that she would
have touched, inspired and empowered to join in the
struggle for a more peaceful, just and sustainable world.
The Emily Fund's "Do One Thing" campaign is
based on Emily's strong conviction that every act of
compassion makes a difference. Alone we may not be
able to change the world, but together we make a world
of difference.
